Not Quite Business as Usual

The outbreak of Covid-19 threw a wrench into the works of life as we knew it. It is a struggle for everyone who has lost employment or is trying to find a new normal in their daily jobs. While they may normally lie in the back of our minds the hospitality industry continues as a backbone of our society to be there when we need them most. Through quick adaptation, going to takeout and adding provisions and pantry items, they have proven they are not going anywhere soon. Their responses were creative and put into action as quickly as possible doing …

The Struggles of Eating at Restaurants With Food Sensitivities

Ever since I developed my food sensitivities (read my story here: https://goo.gl/bmvT2a) going to restaurants is something I’ve avoided doing due to the struggle of trying to find something I can eat. My sensitivities are not common and aren’t really allergies, so they are not listed under the 8 major allergies, which include food products restaurants try to avoid by having alternatives, such as a gluten-free meal. Since my problem is uncommon, there isn’t really alternatives I can eat.
With that being said, I don’t really like to go to restaurants and I try going as little as possible. I …

Stir It Up

Today’s gadget is for all of you out there who consider your blender to be one of your closest friends.
Your blender is there for you in the morning when you’re running late and a breakfast shake on-the-go is all that will silence your stomach gargles until lunchtime. A blender provides you with an extra energy boost by whipping up a pre-workout protein shake so that your muscles can prevail. And your blender will be at home waiting for you when all you want after a long day at the office is a cold banana daiquiri.
So, in order to celebrate one of …

Gift A Gadget

Holiday shopping season is well underway, and I know for some of us the most dreaded part of it all is pushing past the bargain hunters only to wait in never-ending lines at the register so we can purchase presents that we’re not even sure our friends and family will actually appreciate.
shop till you drop!
This year, why not forget all that nonsense and look outside the gift box?
The answer: gift a cooking gadget!
One of my most memorable gifts as a child was an Easy Bake Oven when I was about ten years old. The notion that I could make something …

Share a glass of wine with Stanley Tucci

After a hard day’s work, Stanley Tucci’s “Vine Talk,” on PBS was just what I needed. Lots of laughs, and casual, good times conversations. Each week a different celebrity panel and audience get to taste and judge each episode’s six featured wines. Can you imagine six glasses of wine lined up before you? If that isn’t enough to capture your attention, add to the menu appetizers, brought by a celebrity chef who has “paired” exact ingredients to go with the wines.
This show is a winner for me. On Episode 102, the featured wines of the week were New York’s Finger Lake District …

“Hootie Hoos” chicken pot pie a real winner!

Carla is off Top Chef All Stars, and i miss her unique and fun personality.  And, her “Hootie Hoo” perking greeting. I mean, it’s one of those sayings that sticks, like BAM from Emeril Lagasse.
Lucky for me, Carla’s memory lingers and especially her winning Chicken Pot Pie dish.  Even Tom  Colicchio loved it.
Carla’s remarks at judges table about including both a pre cooked, top and botttom crust, got me thinking.  I mean, i’ve been making the old comfy standby Chicken Pot Pie for ages, without complaint, but i thought, i should try this using her method.
Not for anything, but i …

Meet Jason Santos, Hell’s Kitchen Season Seven Runner-Up who’s Star is Shining!
I had seen the commercials on Fox for Gordon Ramsey’s Hell Kitchen but hearing Gordon’s screaming did not appeal to me. I never watched the show until the summer of 2010, season 7 to be exact when 2 contestants from Boston were on the show. You have to root for the home team! I got drawn into the drama of Hell’s Kitchen! Each week that the Ben Knack and Jason Santos made it through to another week, I could not wait until the show was on again!

Grab that Sugar Pumpkin and make Kaddo Today!

The Helmand Restaurant in Cambridge,Massachusetts is a wonderful Afghan restaurant and it introduced me to one of my favorite dishes of all time Kaddo.  Even though it was listed as an appetizer, each time I would go in, I would have it as my main course.  I thought I was having something that was not only delicious but healthy for me as well after all Kaddo is roasted pumpkin with or without a meat sauce and a yogurt garlic mint sauce.
Up until this time, I had not made many dishes with pumpkin so when I did come across a recipe …

Moonakis- Oh What a Breakfast!

When I want to treat myself to something special, I take myself to Moonakis in Waquoit, MA for breakfast.  I love the menu and their specials are fantastic but when it comes down to it I always order the same thing!  I don’t even have to place my order all they have to do is look at me and write down, short stack plain pancakes!
