Last Friday, I visited the Big Apple for a day trip. The options for good eats in NYC are endless – so many, that it would probably take me years to blog about all the delicious restaurants, bakeries, food trucks that I’ve tried and would like to try. For today’s post, I’ll share with you some of my favorite dessert stops in the concrete jungle. No cronut visit, unfortunately.
My favorite place to get the best red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting is Two Little Red Hens bakery on the Upper East Side. Yes, I truly think their red velvet reigns supreme …
Happy National French Toast Day! This special food holiday was recently celebrated on November 28. French toast also happens to be my favorite breakfast/brunch item, which is no surprise since I have a big sweet tooth. I’m on a mission to try all the best French toast dishes in the Boston area, and hopefully around the world since it is a dish that is enjoyed in so many countries.
It doesn’t take rocket science to whip up a French toast meal: soak slices of bread in a mixture of beaten egg/milk/cream, fry both sides on a skillet, and finish it off with a sweet topping (i.e. powdered sugar, …
If you don’t know this about me already, I have a huge sweet tooth; I love making and eating desserts. Some of my friends, however, are on the other end of the taste spectrum; they enjoy savory foods so much more. For a long time now, chefs have been experimenting different ways for those who want the best of both worlds. Let me share with you my experiences with sweet *and* savory foods that were intriguing, memorable, and surprisingly, tasty!
Years ago, when I was gift- and souvenir- shopping in SoHo, New York City, I decided to see what Vosges Haut-Chocolat had to …
Boston Bakes has grown from our first year with 42 participants primarily in the Boston area to almost 300 participants in over 90 communities in Massachusetts twelve years later. What started as a small event has turned into a full time project where we work hard year round. We have a Facebook page, we tweet and of course blog!
Now we kick off our efforts for 2012! Who will participate? What desserts will they serve? You will have to visit our website, Facebook and follow our tweets to find out!

A stop in Brooklyn took us to Blue Sky Bakery known for their muffins. My biggest mistake was I only got one muffin and an ice coffee for the car trip back to Boston! What was I thinking! I was not thinking because after I started to eat the zucchini raspberry chocolate chip muffin I wish I had more for when I got home. By the time I started to eat the muffin, I was too far away to go back to Brooklyn! Let me tell you it is worth a trip to Brooklyn to go to Blue Sky! Everything …
I started Monday morning by a visit to the Popponesset Marketplace to pick up some half and half and ice coffee at the Country Store and some muffins at the bakery across the way. It had the last of the season feel as I walked around.
Most of the stores and the mini golf have closed for the season. The Country Store will be open daily on a daily basis but for fewer hours during the week and longer hours on the weekend till October or until business drops and it is time to close for the season. The Raw Bar …
Boston Berry moist vanilla butter cupcake filled with a
lemon accented blueberry & strawberry compote
topped with toasted meringue!
I love meringue and can’t wait to visit Dessert Works in Westwood to try this wonderful dessert creation.
How good does this cupcake sound and how good does it look? To me it is perfect and I know before the week is over, I will have tasted it first hand! I suggest you try it as well after all you will be helping to raise money for breast cancer one sweet at a time!
