Valentine’s Day Cupcakes

Valentine’s day, a day of love where you express and share your love with loved ones. A day where there are symbols of hearts and the share of chocolates. Win over your loved one’s heart by making them some chocolate chip cupcakes topped with a chocolate heart.
You can make the frosting and chocolate hearts any color you want to make them Valentines themed. You can make the frosting and hearts red, pink, purple, or any other color you choose. I used purple for these cupcakes for an event we were doing where the theme color was purple, but you can …

Pop-up Restaurant: Whisk

Last Friday, I had my first pop-up restaurant experience at Whisk for a 5-course aphrodisiac tasting. A pop-up restaurant is one that does not have a permanent location. It is often run by young chefs who are learning the start-up business and operate in a private home or facility with a kitchen. Whisk pops up occasionally in bakeries, cafes, and most recently in a soup kitchen, all located in Boston.
The tasting theme was aphrodisiacs, in honor of Valentine’s Day. Although there was no amuse-bouche to start the meal, the chefs entertained the guests with a scrumptious, house-made white fig and pepita sourdough bread.
First course: Asparagus tartare, avocado mousse, strawberry onion …

Dating Through Cancer: My Love Story

Our Wedding Day in September, 2010
Since today is Valentine’s Day, I thought I would tell you a bit about my Valentine – my husband. I met Marc in August of 2007, just three weeks before being diagnosed with Breast Cancer. We’d been out a few times, and I had no idea how to tell him the news. We hadn’t even had ‘the talk’ about being in an actual relationship. I thought for sure that my summer fling was going to run for the hills.
After I told my immediate family about my diagnosis, I called Marc to tell him. I will …

Mini (Salted!) Molten Chocolate Cakes

I’m sure everyone knows this but Valentines Day is right around the corner. Now as a single girl I know I’m supposed to hate this holiday, but really I don’t. I think it is a beautiful day in which you can celebrate all the people you love, not just one significant other. When I was a kid my mom used to give me and my brothers adorable boxes filled with the most wonderful chocolates and candies. In all honesty this is probably the main reason that I like Valentines Day – because of all the chocolate. It is the one …

Pop Goes The Cake

cake-pops by babycakes
The hottest new trend in cake design puts a spin on the traditional sense of cake itself. At first glance, a cake pop looks nothing like the birthday or wedding cakes we are so used to seeing, and later devouring. But once you taste the cake-on-a-stick there’s no denying the delicious factor.
Similar to Dunkin’ Donuts‘ beloved munchkins, or as they’re more commonly known, donut holes, cake pops are a round, bite-sized sweet served on a stick like a lollypop.

Chocolate Mousse to die for!

It is the week to enjoy chocolate, after all isn’t that what you do when Valentine’s Day comes? I came across a recipe for Dorie Greenspan’s Chocolate Mousse and it looked so easy to make I could hardly believe I could get so lucky!  The recipe only had four ingredients!  I had to make it! Move over 5 Ingredient Fix, this was Four Ingredient Fix!

I have been so busy working that time has gotten away from me.
