Macaron Gifts

Since my first attempt at making French macarons, I’ve made them twice more – same recipe (from my trusty MacarOn Café recipe book), but I altered the appearance for special occasions.

Earlier this year, I made confetti macarons for my friend’s birthday gift and another friend’s graduation gift, which were coincidentally around the same time. As I was browsing Pinterest one day, I stumbled across beautiful confetti macarons from Style Sweet CA. I borrowed the decoration idea because what’s more festive than confetti? Especially for celebrations like graduations and birthdays. The only step in the macaron process was to put some sprinkles …

Oreo Truffles

December is always a busy month for me. With holiday shopping, festive parties, final exams and papers, reunions with friends & family who are home for the holidays, as well as travel plans (I’m leaving for a three-week trip to Asia today!) on my agenda, I barely have any time for baking therapy. Every year, I always like to give homemade treats as Christmas gifts to my coworkers. This (busy) year, I took the easy, no-bake route and made Oreo truffles or cookie balls. These are delicious, festive, easy to make, and there are only three ingredients!

DC Eats: Part 1

I just returned from a business trip to Washington, DC and am so excited to share the food aspect of my travels with Boston Bakes readers. It was my first time visiting the nation’s capital and luckily had some free time to do some sightseeing (national monuments and memorial parks), museum hopping, shopping, and dining. This post will focus specifically on select desserts that I tried.
One of my business meals was at the Washington Hilton hotel in the International Ballroom, which seated over 2,000 guests. Needless to say, the venue was very stylish and grand, and so was the food. One of the most …

Carrot Cupcakes

I’m a little obsessed with cupcakes – baking, decorating, and of course, eating these cute morsels. Even though cupcakes seem to be fading from the trendy sweets race, they’re still one of my favorite desserts. I remember when I first became interested in baking during college… I was too intimidated to even attempt following a Martha Stewart recipe. Instead, I’d always reach for a box of Pillsbury cake mix, a red-colored container of Betty Crocker‘s pre-made frosting, and a tube of rainbow sprinkles. Let’s just say that I’ve come a long way these past few years, but I’m still no expert. Now, I …

Centennial Celebrations

2012 is definitely a special year for those that are celebrating centennials. Two of my favorite treats turned 100 this year: the Oreo cookie and Girl Scout Cookies! Meanwhile, both the Titantic and our beloved Fenway Park in Boston will also be celebrating their 100th anniversary this month. Today’s blog post will feature the food aspect, of course.

Oreo is one of my favorite cookies. I like to eat them plain, with milk, in confections (like cupcakes, cheesecakes, pies, ice cream, etc.), home made from scratch, and even the cereal kind (anyone remember Oreo O’s?). A few months ago, I discovered how to make Oreo truffles, which …
