Boston’s 20 Most Iconic Dishes

Eater Boston (local restaurant blog) recently announced Boston’s 20 Most Iconic Dishes. What I love about this list is that you won’t find typical Boston foods (i.e. baked beans, clam chowder). Instead, Eater carefully selected dishes that are both delicious and unique to Boston’s current food scene. I have already crossed off seven items from the list, and plan to try the remaining dishes within the next year. Here are my reviews of what I’ve tried so far.

#9 Neptune Oyster‘s Maine Lobster Roll
There are two options: served hot with butter, or cold with mayo. I’ve only tackled the hot version and …

Dessert Showcase

Last Saturday, I attended the 2012 New England Dessert Showcase at the Sheraton Hotel in Boston, hosted by The Anthem Group. Each year, the event brings together dessert fans to sample sweets from local restaurants, bakeries, and vendors. I have been looking forward to this for a while, seeing as I have a huge sweet tooth. I was only there for a little over an hour but probably consumed enough desserts for the whole week! Each sample size was generous, too. Halfway through the event and starting to feel full, my friends and I started to split the samples, so …

Food and Drink Pairings

Tomorrow, I will be attending the Third Annual Boston Bacon and Beer Festival at The House of Blues in Fenway. I couldn’t be more excited! I tried to attend the event last year, but tickets were sold out in less than five minutes! This year, I made sure I was ready and available to buy the tickets as soon as they were on sale.

Why is the festival so popular? “Everyone loves beer, everyone loves bacon,” event organizer Aaron Cohen told the Boston Herald. It also helps that bacon and beer pair very well together. This made me think of some …

Waffle Day

This past Sunday was International Waffle Day (March 25). A waffle is batter or cake cooked in a waffle iron that results in a distinctive grid pattern. There are several varieties including American, Belgium, Hong Kong, Pandan (Vietnam), and Scandinavian. It can be enjoyed anytime of the day, most commonly for breakfast and dessert.

I celebrated the food holiday by enjoying Belgian liege waffles at Saus in Boston. Although known for the Belgian frites, Saus also serves a variety of other Belgian foods, including the liege waffle, known for its rectangular shape. I tried one with their homemade nutella topping and another …

Tequila & Great Food await you at Temazcal Tequila Cantina!

We recently celebrated a very big birthday at Temazcal Tequila Cantina in the Seaport area of Boston. I chose Temazcal Tequila Cantina because it had an incredible selection of tequila including one of my favorites Don Julio 1942. When I was there previously for drinks the food looked great and I knew I wanted to go back. What a great location! Right on the waterfront I thought sitting as close to the water as possible would make me feel as if I was on holiday. Mexico here I come!
Temazcal Tequila Cantina does not take reservations but I thought if we …

Share a glass of wine with Stanley Tucci

After a hard day’s work, Stanley Tucci’s “Vine Talk,” on PBS was just what I needed. Lots of laughs, and casual, good times conversations. Each week a different celebrity panel and audience get to taste and judge each episode’s six featured wines. Can you imagine six glasses of wine lined up before you? If that isn’t enough to capture your attention, add to the menu appetizers, brought by a celebrity chef who has “paired” exact ingredients to go with the wines.
This show is a winner for me. On Episode 102, the featured wines of the week were New York’s Finger Lake District …

Sweet E’s Cupcakes worth a trip to MV!

Recently I had the fun of going to Sweet E’s Cupcakes in Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard.  I do hope they will one day participate in Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer but then again, I hope every restaurant, bakery and café in Massachusetts will participate in an event so close to my heart and so easy to do. But in the meantime let me tell you about how I fell in love with Sweet E’s!
