Nuts Galore

hazelnuts from wikipedia.org
Whether it be walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts or peanuts, crushed nuts are a great addition to so many snacks and meals. Sprinkling nuts on salads gives it that extra crunch. And baking with nuts is another whole story.
One set back is that nuts tend to be a little expensive. But with the Williams Sonoma Nut Chopper you can now buy nuts in bulk and grind them down until they’re at your preferred size.
Just fill the top compartment, choose the setting size and turn the handle. The crushed nuts will collect in the bottom container.

Banana Nut Cookies

Recently my niece came over on a Sunday and wanted to bake but she was not in the mood for something chocolaty!  I really did not have much in the house to make and then I remembered we had talked in the past about banana nut bread but we wanted to make cookies. I googled banana nut cookies and found this simple recipe for you guessed it banana nut cookies!

I had everything but the chocolate chips which my niece would bring so I was all set. I took out the ingredients that needed to be at room temperature and by …

Sweet & Savory

If you don’t know this about me already, I have a huge sweet tooth; I love making and eating desserts. Some of my friends, however, are on the other end of the taste spectrum; they enjoy savory foods so much more. For a long time now, chefs have been experimenting different ways for those who want the best of both worlds. Let me share with you my experiences with sweet *and* savory foods that were intriguing, memorable, and surprisingly, tasty!

Kitchen Gadget can’t live without: Immersion Blender!

I don’t know how many years I have had my  Braun immersion blender which not only blends but came with a little chopping attachment which has come in handy so many times.
For chopping small quantities of nuts or herbs, it is easier to take the immersion blender than my food processor and it chops in seconds and is easy to clean.

Brie En Croute a Great Way to Start a Holiday Meal!

Holidays are for trying new recipes too! Usually I make the same menu for every Thanksgiving after all it is expected. I understand it is all about tradition but sometimes, I just want to change things a bit.  So this year I tried several new recipes I found by chance on the Food Network!
Baked brie is not only easy and quick to make but it looks more complicated than it really is to make thanks to the wonderful puff pastry we have in the freezer section of our local supermarkets! Having a great puff pastry available is much easier than …

Freeze and Bake Rugelach! Perfect for your Holidays!

I love recipes that say right from the start “make the whole recipe and freeze them unbaked.” As I get ready for the upcoming holidays which are so early this year there is a blur between Labor Day and Rosh Hashanah, I am excited that Ina Garten’s Rugelach recipe fits the bill!

I am trying to remember my first rugelach memory but to be honest I can’t!  All I know is that rugelach was always a staple in our house when I was growing up in New York and it did not matter if it was homemade or from Walls or …
