Shop till You Drop and Raise Money for Breast Cancer!

Here at Bakes for Breast Cancer, one week out of the year, we raise money for breast cancer one sweet at a time with our event Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer which takes place each year during the week of Mother’s Day!  This year Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer takes place May 6-12, 2013!
We realized that many of our followers on Facebook and Twitter do not live in Massachusetts to enjoy the many sweets at restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries, ice cream and chocolate shops, and Food Trucks to name a few of the many places desserts are offered in our effort …

Garlic Goodness

garlic from eatingwell.com
One word: Garlic. I use garlic in so many things when I cook. Tomato sauce, mashed potatoes, stir-fried veggies; they all taste so much better when I add a little (but usually a lot more than a little) garlic.
For the amount of garlic I use when I cook it’s surprising that I don’t own a garlic press. Chopping garlic the old fashion way, mincing and slicing on my wooden cutting board, works pretty well. I still get the same delicious flavor, it just takes a little longer and leaves my fingers smelling like garlic for a couple days, …

Rice-Aroma

maple tree from buzzle.com
I recently spent some time visiting friends in upper New York State. It was the perfect autumn get-away. The air was crisp and clear and the foliage was unbelievably beautiful. Maple trees ranged from bright yellow to deep reds and burnt orange.
A few of my friends attend St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. Although they live in a dorm they managed to make the space into a cozy, comfortable home. So comfortable, in fact, that the only time they spend away from their humble abode is to go to class, grab a scarce meal from the …

Birthday Cake Pops

cake push up pops from nycake.com
It’s my birthday so cake I will eat! In honor of my own big day a cake-gadget had to be in order. Even though turning twenty three isn’t a major milestone like turning twenty one or twenty five, as my father reminded me this morning when he called to wish me a happy day, I still think it’s appropriate to talk about cake today.
I found the cutest little gadget that is perfect for a birthday at any age. Similar to the cake-pop maker that I blogged about many Thursdays ago, the Cake Push Up Tubes …

Sliced Right

When I first came across the Spork, half spoon half fork, I thought it was the coolest invention around.
spork from thinkgeek.com
A spoon with fork-prongs sticking out of the end seemed like an ingenious idea that would eliminate the need for the two separate utensils. But the Spork didn’t make as big of a splash as I thought it would and I really haven’t used one since the last time I ordered a baked potato at Wendy’s about five years ago.
But recently I met the Spork’s little, cooler and edgier sister: the Knork. The Knork looks like a fork, but the edges …

Sweet & Savory

If you don’t know this about me already, I have a huge sweet tooth; I love making and eating desserts. Some of my friends, however, are on the other end of the taste spectrum; they enjoy savory foods so much more. For a long time now, chefs have been experimenting different ways for those who want the best of both worlds. Let me share with you my experiences with sweet *and* savory foods that were intriguing, memorable, and surprisingly, tasty!

Years ago, when I was gift- and souvenir- shopping in SoHo, New York City, I decided to see what Vosges Haut-Chocolat had to …

Pop Goes The Cake

cake-pops by babycakes
The hottest new trend in cake design puts a spin on the traditional sense of cake itself. At first glance, a cake pop looks nothing like the birthday or wedding cakes we are so used to seeing, and later devouring. But once you taste the cake-on-a-stick there’s no denying the delicious factor.
Similar to Dunkin’ Donuts‘ beloved munchkins, or as they’re more commonly known, donut holes, cake pops are a round, bite-sized sweet served on a stick like a lollypop.

They are decorative and adorable, and perfect for any kind of celebration whether it be …

The Bride Wore Red & Gifts went to local charities!

I recently travel to Columbus for the wedding festivities of a lovely young woman I got to spend time with as she grew up. I am so glad I went to her wedding. I had such a great time in Columbus I can’t wait to tell you the fun things I did, but first things first!
This wedding was special for numerous reasons and I learned so much by attending and have tips to share when you plan your wedding!
The couple’s invitation was unique and in lieu of gifts  asked you to donate to a choice of charities in their local …
