This dessert is for Colleen!

Boston Bakes 2011 was dedicated to the memory of our friend Colleen O’Farrell who we saw each year when we would visit the Fox 25 studio in Dedham during the week of Boston Bakes.
All the desserts I enjoyed this week I thought about Colleen O’Farrell just as her husband Pete asked during the Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer Kick-off press conference at the BCAE! As you can see in this very touching story which aired on NECN last week.

Pete O’Farrell asked that when we enjoyed the desserts from the week of Boston Bakes we remember his wife …

Colleen O’Farrell – simply a gem

As Colleen’s sister I am compelled to write about her on this site.  I have found it difficult to not just tell you how terribly I miss her.  Or to write about how difficult it is to live without the only person, other than your parents, that you have known all of your life.  She was the other half of me, the younger, far more energetic, better half of me.

Colleen feared nothing – from bike jumps and roller coasters as a kid, to white water rafting and sky diving as an adult – nothing stopped her.  Even cancer couldn’t stop …

What a great segment on Boston Bakes on Fox 25 Morning News!

In case you missed it,  Boston Bakes kicked off it’s 12th Annual Event on the Fox 25 Morning News. It is worth watching! Chef Joho from Brasserie Jo showed Kim Carrigan how to make their famous  profiteroles with chocolate sauce.  Check out the desserts from Treat Cupcake Bar, Bullfinchs, 62 Restaurant & Wine Bar and Buca di Beppo!
How touching it was to remember ColleenO’Farrell and seeing the pictures of her and her family!  How she is missed!
Loved the way they made our new logo come to life with the swirl floating into place!
Next week check out more desserts that we …

Colleen Horan O’Farrell The Child She Was And The Woman She Would Become

Colleen was full of energy and spirit from the moment she was born.  I often said she never learned to walk….crawling was much too slow, so she went directly to running.  She was always climbing…..out of the crib, out of the playpen, then graduating to hills and trees.  Our neighbor dubbed her, “Monkey.” Oh so many times I heard, “Don’t break her spirit,” when I was merely trying to keep her from breaking her neck.
She took swimming lessons early because she loved the water and the beach, and was too impatient to bother with a life jacket.  A …

Guardian of Colleen’s Memory, Pete O’Farrell shares his Story

When I was asked to write about my wife Colleen and her battle with Breast Cancer I didn’t really know how to approach the subject.  Colleen was the love of my life so I see this as a monumental task, also I see myself as a guardian of her memory.  I do this out of my love for her, and to make sure that our two children know of the incredible woman who was and is their mother.  How can one convey such an amazing woman in words?  Anyone who knew Colleen knows that she can not be summed up …
