One of the best things about summer is the sheer amount of outdoor activities. And one of my favorite things to do is check out food festivals when I have a chance. Food festivals/events are a good way to sample different foods, whether they celebrate a specific culture, a charity, or are just a fun way to bring people together. As we start off the month of June, here are some food festivals happening in and around Boston (titles link to official/ticket sites):
SoWa Open Market: This isn’t strictly a food festival and has three different locations covering three blocks. The …
Lately, all the rave has been about ramen noodles, which appeared on the list of 2013 Food Trends that are spreading across the US. In fact, it’s a major hit in Boston now, as mentioned in Boston Magazine. Like most people, my experience with ramen has been limited to pre-packaged and styrofoam cup versions – a staple back when I lived in the college dorms. Last year, I was introduced to a real bowl of ramen noodles served in a restaurant. Since then, I have tried almost all of the noodle bars in the Boston area and still hungry for more.
My first encounter …
For as long as I can remember Oleana in Cambridge has been participating in Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer. When Sofra Bakery & Cafe opened, they too joined Boston Bakes offering us wonderful desserts with an Eastern Mediterranean influence.
All desserts at both Oleana and Sofra are from the incredible pastry chef Maura Kilpatrick. Maura has been named Best of Boston, Best Pastry Chef four times and in 2009 received the Star Chefs rising star award.

I got Joanne Chang’s cookbook Flour the first day it was available at the New England Book Fair in Newton. Although I have not had the time I wished to read the book and recipes page after page of tempting offerings, I decided the first thing I would make is chocolate pudding from scratch. I had only made chocolate pudding from a box and my favorite part was to add cream to the little left over in the pot and enjoy the chocolate pudding hot off the stove! I like my chocolate pudding warm to hot with cream on top …

It is the week to enjoy chocolate, after all isn’t that what you do when Valentine’s Day comes? I came across a recipe for Dorie Greenspan’s Chocolate Mousse and it looked so easy to make I could hardly believe I could get so lucky! The recipe only had four ingredients! I had to make it! Move over 5 Ingredient Fix, this was Four Ingredient Fix!

Move over 160 we now have over 190 restaurants, bakeries and cafes and chocolate shops participating in this year’s Boston Bakes. Hopefully we are not done adding more participants because I would be disappointed if that was the case! We have records to break!

Breast cancer survivor Bonnie Randall, 63, of Cambridge, has dealt with a lot of highly stressful, emotional situations her lifetime. Four years before her own diagnosis, Randall’s daughter fought a difficult battle with leukemia. Eight years after her diagnosis, her son passed away.
She admits she could be on the bottle or a raving maniac, but instead, she feels very lucky, in spite of her losses because she has been strong enough to learn from them.
“I am who I am right now because of those different …
