Is it coincidence that Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer 2014 starts on Cinco de Mayo-a day to celebrate with food and drink? I don’t think so! So while you are celebrating the festivities of Cinco de Mayo with food and drink celebrate it with dessert as well! Visit a Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer participant, save room for dessert and help us raise money for breast cancer one sweet at a time!
Many of our participants have celebrations for Cinco de Mayo! Check out Jose’s Mexican Restaurant, Picante Mexican Grill, El Pelon Taqueria, and Viva Mexican Grill to name a few, …
Happy National French Toast Day! This special food holiday was recently celebrated on November 28. French toast also happens to be my favorite breakfast/brunch item, which is no surprise since I have a big sweet tooth. I’m on a mission to try all the best French toast dishes in the Boston area, and hopefully around the world since it is a dish that is enjoyed in so many countries.
It doesn’t take rocket science to whip up a French toast meal: soak slices of bread in a mixture of beaten egg/milk/cream, fry both sides on a skillet, and finish it off with a sweet topping (i.e. powdered sugar, …
I just returned from a business trip to Washington, DC and am so excited to share the food aspect of my travels with Boston Bakes readers. It was my first time visiting the nation’s capital and luckily had some free time to do some sightseeing (national monuments and memorial parks), museum hopping, shopping, and dining. This post will focus specifically on select desserts that I tried.
One of my business meals was at the Washington Hilton hotel in the International Ballroom, which seated over 2,000 guests. Needless to say, the venue was very stylish and grand, and so was the food. One of the most …
October flew by! Breast Cancer Awareness Month ends today! Pink will no longer be the” it” color! The number of breast cancer events dwindle down but our organization Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc. works daily as do many other organizations to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer all year long!
Breast Cancer is brought to the forefront in October but we should not forget about it because all year long women and men of all ages are diagnosed with breast cancer.
You don’t have to wait until next October to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer …
Did you know that sweet potatoes are full of nutrition and health benefits? According to Natural News, sweet potatoes have superior fiber content, large amount of vitamin B6 (good for your heart), vitamin A (good for your skin), manganese (supports healthy blood sugar levels), and vitamins C & E (antioxidants).
I’ve always been a fan of sweet potato – baked whole, as fries, in sushi, and even in sandwiches. I first tried sweet potato salad at New England Soup Factory in Brookline, MA, and fell in love at first bite. NESF (a Boston Bakes participant) doesn’t always have it available, but …
Is there any such thing as too much garlic? Some would say yes, and I used to be the first to agree. But over the past couple of years I stopped caring about my fresh breath and started indulging in the delicious flavor whenever possible.

When I think of my favorite fully garlic-loaded food my mother’s caesar salad is the first thing that comes to mind. Her homemade dressing isn’t creamy like the typical caesar dressing you’re probably used to. Instead, it’s olive oil based with lots of lemon juice and A LOT of fresh garlic. She even tosses …
Last week while I was chatting on the phone with my cousin who lives in Salem, MA, she mentioned her newest kitchen gadget that she just can’t get enough of. When I told her that I’d never heard of it she was taken aback. So I did a little research of my own, and I, too, soon became seduced by the wonder of what is the Slap Chop.
A small, handheld device, with a hollow core and a W-shaped blade concealed within the body of the gadget, the Slap Chop minces and dices a plethora of foods. By “slapping” the lever on the …
