Labor Day

The first Monday in September is Labor Day and is dedicated to the American workers!  Something which we should be celebrating daily for the difference they make in our lives! We celebrate them today and thank them for all they do for us.
The first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City in 1882 but that is not when it became a national holiday! Who created the holiday might be unclear but it is something we celebrate proudly every year.
When Labor Day rolls around, it always marks the unofficial end of summer which flies by once Memorial Day comes and …

Garden Fresh

basil from realsimple.com
One of the many fabulous summertime perks is having a lush, green garden. If you have a green-thumb then you’re probably eating home-grown veggies and enjoying beautiful flowers by the vase full. And, of course, one of the easiest and most commonly garden-grown treat, herbs!
Herbs add some serious flavor to food. Fresh basil adds a punch to pasta sauces and is unbelievably good on homemade pizza. Home-grown dill will have you eating coleslaw every night. And add fresh mint leaves to you’re iced tea, or simply chew on them to freshen breath!
If you’re an herb-lover then the Herb …

Calling All Sandwiches

eggplant panini from acefitness.org
The sandwich has been a luncheon trademark for as long as I can remember. Satisfying and nutritious, there are endless options waiting to be stuffed between a couple slices of bread for a mid-day meal. From club sandwiches to tea sandwiches to wraps and flat-breads; one of my most beloved has to be the Panini.
Crispy on the outside with a golden crust and a warm, melty inside makes the panini irresistible.
And now you no longer have to eat-out to get your panini fix. The Giada Gourmet Panini Maker from Target is what you’ve been waiting for. It’s …

More Pancakes, Please!

chocolate chip pancakes from recipegirl.com
Chocolate chip pancakes were always my breakfast of choice when I was a kid. The thought of light and fluffy pancakes with sweet chocolate and warm syrup makes my mouth water. Any flavor pancakes, from banana to blueberry to lemon-ricotta, are a delicious breakfast treat.
But when I eventually roll out of bed on Saturday morning, pancakes often seem like a hassle to prepare. So instead of letting the laziness take over and reaching for the cereal box, this little gadget will solve any pancake problems you might have.

Oh My, Pizza Pie!

grilled pizza from chow.com
Summertime means bbq‘s in the back yard every night. So finding new things to throw on the grill is a must, because no matter how tasty the burgers and dogs might be you have to add some variety to the mix.
There are so many things you can grill up for dinner from bbq chicken to swordfish steaks to kabobs of peppers and eggplant. I’ve even heard of grilled watermelon as a substitute for a burger. But one of my favorite things to cook on the grill has to be pizza.
Grilled pizza takes practice. You can’t just do …

Cutest Cookie Sandwiches

This week at Boston Bakes everyone is putting their best dessert forward. From cakes, cookies, pies and more, I decided to join the trend and talk about a gadget that will make some real tasty desserts, and it will take only minutes!
from cuisipro.com
Summer is well on it’s way and as I’m daydreaming of long days at the beach I can’t help but think about the ice cream truck that will soon be ringing it’s bell for all the kids to hear. Ice cream cookie sandwiches were always one of my favorite treats from the ice cream truck. The Cuisipro Mini …

Simmer Down

Cooking is fun and rewarding, but at times it can also feel overwhelming. Between chopping, peeling, sautéing and stirring I often feel like I need four more hands to get everything right. A pot of simmering sauce left alone a moment too long can be scorched to ruin before we even realize.
And what about those sauces, soups and stews that need your constant attention for multiple hours on end? I for one would rather not stand in front of the stove, spoon in hand, for half the day and stir without rest. But, if it’s all for a fabulous outcome, …

wicked waffles

One thing I love about the weekends is putting the cereal aside until Monday and indulging in some real stick-to-your-ribs kind of breakfast. Chocolate chip pancakes used to be my Saturday usual, but these days anything from omelets with toast and home fries to french toast doused in syrup and powered sugar are fine by me.
When I studied abroad last year I did a bit of traveling through Europe. I ended up spending a weekend in Brussels and the most memorable part were the waffles.

Prima Pasta

One of my favorite comfort foods has always been pasta. No matter how you serve it, with butter and melted parmesan, or doused in sweet red marinara sauce, it’s always satisfying and delicious. It may sound strange to some but one of my favorite ways to have pasta growing up was casserole-style, mixed with tuna fish, mayonnaise and dill pickles, mmm. And I can’t forget to mention my mother’s scrumptious pasta salads that are the staple at most of our barbecue’s all summer long.
As of late, pasta has gotten a bad rep. Many of us hold the noodle accountable for …
