Labor Day

The first Monday in September is Labor Day and is dedicated to the American workers!  Something which we should be celebrating daily for the difference they make in our lives! We celebrate them today and thank them for all they do for us.
The first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City in 1882 but that is not when it became a national holiday! Who created the holiday might be unclear but it is something we celebrate proudly every year.

Opening Day!

I feel like the Red Sox at the start of a new season. The Red Sox’s are off to a good start and soon so will Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer.  Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer is coming up quickly May 6-12!
So much work has been done in the off season! New volunteers and interns, veteran volunteers and interns, new participants, veteran participants and the list can go on!  We are nothing without our team, the team that gets the event together, the team of participants that truly believe in our cause and is getting ready to bake a dessert …

 

Centennial Celebrations

2012 is definitely a special year for those that are celebrating centennials. Two of my favorite treats turned 100 this year: the Oreo cookie and Girl Scout Cookies! Meanwhile, both the Titantic and our beloved Fenway Park in Boston will also be celebrating their 100th anniversary this month. Today’s blog post will feature the food aspect, of course.
 

Oreo is one of my favorite cookies. I like to eat them plain, with milk, in confections (like cupcakes, cheesecakes, pies, ice cream, etc.), home made from scratch, and even the cereal kind (anyone remember Oreo O’s?). A few months ago, I discovered how to make Oreo truffles, which …
