It seems like this winter is extra snowy, doesn’t it? It looks like we’re in for another storm today. Last week when the blizzard hit, I was able to work from home, and instead of trekking through the snow, I got to enjoy it from my window (in my pj’s) with a nice hot green tea latte.

Green tea lattes are made with matcha, a powdered green tea. Traditionally, it’s served in a bowl with a whisk to mix it into the hot water. It’s strong and grassy, and even healthier for you than normal green tea, since you’re actually consuming the ground up leaves (rather than just the water flavored by them). It’s chock full of antioxidants which have strong links to cancer prevention. But, I’ll be honest – I don’t like plain matcha. If you’re like me and aren’t a huge fan of the taste of matcha by itself, a matcha latte is a great way to reap the benefits. Just whisk into some warm milk or almond milk and add a little sweetener. The best sweeteners are natural ones, and honey would make a great addition here. Lavender simple syrup would also be delicious.

Green tea latte
1 cup milk or non-dairy milk (I use almond milk)
1/2 tsp matcha powder
Sweetener to taste (I use honey)

Heat 1 cup of milk until just simmering. Remove from heat. Add 1/2 tsp matcha powder, whisk vigorously to create a froth. Stir in sweetener and enjoy.
