Heading to the Fireplace the Week of Boston Bakes!

Yesterday, I received an incredible email from our good friend Jim Solomon, chef and owner of the Fireplace in Brookline, Massachusetts. Jim’s email gave me the “heads-up” on his dessert, knowing I would want to make a reservation! He was right!
Jim has been a supporter of Boston Bakes for more years than I can remember.  The Fireplace and Jim are all about Americana!   His restaurant is all about embracing the foods of New England, simple and deliciously prepared, homey and comfy. The Fireplace is also a certified green restaurant.
In the early years of Boston Bakes, Jim would serve a wonderful …

Boston is in the process of healing. It will take time.  Strong and united Boston stands.  Listening to Stephen Colbert talk about Boston and who we are, humorous but true! Hearing the national anthem being sung at the Bruin game last night shows our unity and spirit.
The victims and their families are always in our thoughts.  It is still unimaginable but the strength of the community will unite everyone.  We will be dealing with this for a long time to come.  Next year, the Boston Marathon will be bigger and better than ever.
Fundraisers have begun to help and of …

Sweet As Pie

Some may say pie is the perfect dessert. Enjoyed warm, straight from the cooling rack, topped with whipped cream or paired with cool vanilla ice cream. It doesn’t matter how you serve it, pie has become an all-American, always delicious dessert. Everyone has their favorite kind of pie. For me, it’s homemade coconut cream pie.
My 21st Birthday Coconut Cream Pie
At my family Christmas party everyone always saves room for Auntie Judy’s orange, lime, and chocolate pudding pies with the graham cracker crust. Last week for Thanksgiving it was my mother’s sweet-but-tart, out-of-this-world lemon meringue pie that makes my mouth water …

To Market, to Market!

We’re at our first “pit stop” of the day at Market inside of the W Hotel. Weren’t we pleasantly surprised to find out not only are they not only serving just one dessert like we originally thought, but four! They are all displayed beautifully in the middle of the dining room. They have a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting that has been a huge hit! Also featured is a strawberry cake with white chocolate filling, devil’s food cake with chocolate buttercream, and last but certainly not least a toasted coconut cake! YUM!
