Out of the blue on December 10, 2012 I received a call from a reporter at the Boston Herald who was writing an article in regard to charitable organizations and how much they gave to the cause they were raising money for.  She called to interview me because we gave much of what we received from our event to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston to be used for breast cancer research.

I was interviewed over the phone and then was caught by surprise when she said we would like to have a photographer come over now and take your picture!   I had been interviewed before during our events but never was I told someone wanted to send a photographer over to take a picture of me now! Working from home as I do does not mean I am camera ready at a moment’s notice!  I needed a little time to get ready.  Two hours later a photographer rang my door bell!  The next day a wonderful article was written about our organization.

This was a news story. We were making news! It was an incredible feeling to be recognized for something we do and believe in.

I did not realize until I got a call from Dana-Farber saying that the Boston Business Journal had done an article in their January 11-17, 2013 issue saying that we were number one in the State of Massachusetts in 2011 for giving the highest percentage of monies raised to the cause we were supporting. The article mentioned we gave back 93.6% and that figure made us number one for the year 2011! It was a wow moment!

Boston Bakes is Number 1!

Boston Bakes is Number 1!

We, this little grass roots organization Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc. dba Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer did this!

Great things happen when you least expect them. I never expected the call in December from the Boston Herald reporter to do an interview on Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer/ Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc. After all, most of our press comes in April and May around the time of our event Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer which takes place every year for the past 14 years during the week of Mother’s Day!

I never imagined that we would be number one in an article from the Boston Business Journal from information that they compiled from the Attorney General’s Office saying we gave the most of the money raised from our event to breast cancer to support breast cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Ever since I started fundraising my mission was always to put the cause first and to be recognized for doing that was an incredible feeling.  It is very hard for me to put into words the feeling I have for being number one, believing in our cause and doing everything I can along with the help of many volunteers to make have made this possible.  We work very hard all year long to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer that touches so many women and men we know and love.

Our organization is growing and there is so much more we want to do now and in the future.

We need more participating establishments for our event Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer which takes place May 6-12! Register and get involved!

We need more people to hold a Bakes for Breast Cancer Bake Sale! Register!
