A Visit to the Franklin Park Zoo

By No Comments2 min read

I recently took a road trip and went to places in Boston I am ashamed to say I have never been to in the many years I have lived here!

A trip down Blue Hill Avenue led us to South Boston and Castle Island but on the way back a visit to Simco’s on the Bridge for a foot long hot dog on a buttered grilled bun with mustard and sauerkraut was a welcomed treat. Simco’s is an landmark that has been in business since the depression and is located at 1509 Blue Hill Ave. Their menu has grown over the years but they will always be known for their famous hot dogs!  It was a good hot dog and to be honest, I could have eaten a second.

Then we were off to the Franklin Park Zoo!  I had never been to the Franklin Park Zoo before either!  So it was a great day of firsts for me.  It was somewhat quiet and late in the afternoon by the time we got to the zoo, like an hour or so before the zoo closed so we rushed through this old zoo quickly. The one thing I noticed were signs for Kevin James movie The Zookeeper opening up in July which was filed at the Franklin Park Zoo.

Kiddie rides, animals, concession stands (of which only one was opened during our visit) were waiting for us as we rushed through the zoo which was founded in 1912! The Zoo offers a variety of programs and exhibits including a zoo camp for children.

Take some time and do something you have never done in the area you live, you might have a very enjoyable day!
