It is hard to imagine 15 years ago a new event was crated that crossed every socioeconomic demographics and let anyone and everyone help in the fight against breast cancer by simply buying a dessert!  We called it Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer.  It had a catchy ring to it even though if you say it five times fast it becomes a tongue twister.

Small things come in good packages and never could we have imagined how we would grow from 42 participants in our first year to last year over 300 participants in over 90 Massachusetts communities.  Although our name says Boston Bakes we are truly Massachusetts Bakes for Breast Cancer because the whole state supports our efforts.

We grew when the economy was good and we grew when the economy hit hard times as well. It says a lot about our community, our participants – the restaurants, bakeries, cafes, supermarkets who are constantly asked to give to everyone and everything.  They support us with open arms.  We are grateful for their belief in our event, for their staffs’ belief in our event and wanting to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer one sweet at a time. We love them and the desserts they make and sell on our behalf.

But, that is only half of the equation!  Where would we be without those who love to indulge in a dessert or two during the week of Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer? It is a joint effort between those who love to make desserts and those who love to enjoy desserts for a good cause.

I have met people who use Boston Bakes like their restaurant week and go to our participants to help in the fight against breast cancer that has touched their lives.  I have met people who shop and send desserts to their friends and loved ones who don’t live nearby or just can’t make it out to one of our participants.  They shop their way into our hearts and the fight against breast cancer.

You can dine, shop, eat, enjoy and donate to help us raise money for breast cancer for Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer.  Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer takes place May 5-11, 2014.  Funds raised are shared with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the nonprofit breast cancer organization Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc.

Save the dates  May 5-11 and enjoy Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer!  Help us raise money for breast cancer research the sweetest way we know how! Check out to see who is participating!

Still time to participate!  Sign up your establishment to  participate in Boston Bakes 2014!
