A Brief Biography of an Aspiring Baker

By 3 Comments3 min read

Hello readers of Boston Bakes! Allow me to introduce myself: My name is Jenna Greenberg and I am a twenty year old student living in the heart of downtown Boston. As a student technically I am studying Writing, Literature and Publishing, however as a general 20 year old I am studying a lot of things on my own in order to learn who I am and what I am passionate about. One of the things I have discovered is that I absolutely love to bake. My passion for food is as strong, if not stronger, than my passion for writing so I thought what better way to combine two of the things I adore most in the world than into a food blog?
Perhaps I should tell you why food is such an important part of my life.
Food has always been something I have been passionate about and I think because it is a part of my genetics. No seriously – I come from a family of bakers. Before my Mother became a “mother” she was a chef but after having three children she didn’t have time for the professional world of food, but that didn’t mean she was going to give up what she loved. Instead she simply put her love for food onto our dinner table every night. Growing up I ate only the best of the best; home cooked meals by my mother. My friends and enemies alike used to beg for invitation to dinner at my house, because it was known all through the school that my mother was the absolute best cook around. I grew very accustomed to eating only delicious foods and I guess you could say I was a certified food snob by the time I could chew solid foods.
Its no surprise then that college life came as a shock to me, and that my first experience with dorm food was terrifying to say the least. I quickly realized if I ever wanted any semblance of a home cooked meal the “home cooking” station in our dining hall just wasn’t going to cut it and I would have to do it myself.
Although I don’t have time to cook myself dinner every night (nor do I have the budget!) I do like to treat myself – and my roommates too! – as often as I can. This is why I love to bake so much. To me baking is a treat; it is a time to take a break from the hectic day to day and reward oneself with something delicious. I hope that each week you will allow me to share these delicious rewards with you and that you will take some time in your busy weeks to reward yourselves!
Stay tuned for my first post on Wednesday about Caramel Brownies!
Happy Baking!
